Falcon students love to learn! And we are busy! We are studying the Midwest Region states and capitals. Labeled and unlabeled maps of the Midwest Region are located in the Help Links and Documents section. The test is Friday, January 19, 2018.
This past Friday students were introduced to The Preamble of the Constitution. They left my classroom singing The Preamble from School House Rocks. And The Preamble to the Constitution with Barney Fife in the Andy Griffith Show will leave a smile on your face. Links to Youtube videos from these performances are also in the Help Links and Documents section. Students are telling me they are enjoying studying the 12 states and 12 capitals of the Southeast Region. If your plans for the Thanksgiving holiday include travel you may want to encourage your child to bring the flashcards they made in class, or make some new ones!
Thanks again for helping your child to study and providing support and encouragement. This week your student will learn the 12 states and 12 capitals of the Southeast Region. Please encourage them to study each day. The test will be scheduled for Tuesday, the 28th of November. There is more information to help your student study when you click on the HELP LINKS AND DOCUMENTS tab. Thanks again for all you do to support your student's education.
Getting settled in the New World has taken a little bit longer than we expected!
So some of our lessons are continuing along the same themes. And, I have postponed the introduction of the Southeast Region States & Capitals until the week of November 6th. This week we will begin studying and comparing the English Colonies. There were three regions within the colonies: The New England Colonies, the Middle Colonies, and the Southern Colonies. The regions have distinct geographic features, including land- forms, natural resources, and climate. Their economies were based on local products and services. We will be learning about them this next week while we do a group project. It should be fun!
Hello!
We are gathering information about our individual histories to relate to our study of the history of our country. If you have a story or two from Grandma, or Grandpa that you want to pass down to your child it may prove to be helpful! Thanks for all of the help you gave your student to study for the NE Region states and capitals. Many students were VERY successful and felt good about their learning! We will begin our study of the SE Region states and capitals the week of October 30th. On Tuesday, October 10th we will have a review for the NE Region states and capitals. Then on Wednesday, October 11th your student will have a test on the Northeast Region States and Capitals. Once again, here are the states and capitals:
The Northeast Region: State Capital Maine Augusta Vermont Montpelier New Hampshire Concord Massachusetts Boston Connecticut Hartford Rhode Island Providence New York Albany New Jersey Trenton Pennsylvania Harrisburg Delaware Dover Maryland Annapolis The students appear to enjoy learning about the USA! Please see my "Help Links and Documents" page for maps on the NE Region. I have uploaded a blank map for practice at home, and a labeled map to check your work. Dear Parents and Families,
Homework begins this week for Social Studies. Each day at home your child should be spending time learning the states and capitals of the Northeast Region. Remember they can be learned through songs, videos, online games, and board games. The U.S.A. is defined by five regions for our learning. We will begin with: The Northeast Region: State Capital Maine Augusta Vermont Montpelier New Hampshire Concord Massachusetts Boston Connecticut Hartford Rhode Island Providence New York Albany New Jersey Trenton Pennsylvania Harrisburg Delaware Dover Maryland Annapolis Your student will be provided a map the week of Oct. 2, 2017 that contains the 11 states and 11 capitals of the Northeast Region. Here is a list of the 11 states and 11 capitals. Tentatively I am scheduling the test for October 11. Your child will need to be able to identify the location of each state on a map of the Northeast Region, and eventually a map of the USA. Please check out the Help Links and Documents page. I hope this becomes a fun way to share in your child's education! Thanks for being part of the team to improve your student's 5th grade experience! Dear Parents and Families,
Your student will be learning the 50 states and capitals of the U.S.A this school year! There are so many fun ways to learn them that include computer games, songs, board games, and puzzles to name just a few options. Our study will begin the week of October 2nd with an introduction at school. We will study the 50 states and capitals by regions. Your student will then have the region assigned as homework each day.
